Artist’s Statement
David Spencer, photographer: "After operating a commercial photography studio in Massachusetts for many years, I returned to Maine in 2018. I was born here and I'm very happy to be living in Maine once again. It's perfect for me as time and history seems to move more slowly.
I've always been a big fan of vintage photography. The art of Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, Steichen and Elliot Porter to name a few is what drew me so naturally black and white became my favorite medium. Old cars, barns, tools, and pretty much anything weathered and worn will pique my curiosity. As historic buildings and old barns and are being torn down and landscapes repurposed, I hope that my photography evokes a sense of nostalgia and quietness in the viewer and perhaps a greater appreciation for the past. We can't stop time but we can admire it's handywork."
